Social Media gives life to Veronica Mars

If you are a Veronica Mars fan you need not read this blog as you surely know all the details. All others, read on!

The American television show ran from 2oo4 to 2007. The producers wanted to do a film version of this story of a high school student who moonlights as a private detective.  Hollywood studios rejected the proposal so they turned to the internet and the fan base for help:

Their target on Kickstarter was $2 million dollars. The result and the speed by which it occurred surprised even them:

The Kickstarter campaign ended on April 13, 2013, with 91,585 donors, raising $5,702,153. The goal was met within 10 hours of the start of the campaign. In its first day on Kickstarter, the project broke the record as the fastest project to reach first $1 million, then $2 million; the highest minimal pledging goal achieved; and the largest successful film project on KickStarter.

The interesting thing is that none of the backers will receive any financial return for their support. Their rewards fell into different categories, and depending on the amount pledged, backers will get from regular updates as the project develops to a speaking role in the movie in a scene with the star plus an invitation to the red carpet premiere and after party.

Veronica Mars the movie will come to life because of fan power and that of social media.
