“Not crossing you.”

I’ve googled the phrase “not crossing you” and maybe it’s a Trini expression because I could not find it used the way we do.  When a Trini says it , it actually means just the opposite.  It means that you are crossing the person, aka interrupting the flow of what they are saying and we sanitize our rudeness with, “not crossing you” usually said with a charming voice and a faint smile with the turn of our head.

Not crossing you really means a few other things like:

  • I’ve stopped listening to you a long time ago and can’t wait to deliver you out of your ignorance with my pearls of wisdom
  • I don’t agree with a single word you have just uttered or will utter on this subject given my pre-disposition to what I believe your opinion is on the subject
  • I am a tolerant person to half listen to you before I fill the dessert air with my sweetness
  • I wish you would shut up
  • I am in a hurry so please précis your war and peace
  • I only care about not crossing you so long as I am seen as a nice person

I hope I have not stepped on any corns.  Not crossing you.
